Simple ideas for decorating a baby’s room.

Pregnant mums are often deluged with information, tips and advice from family, friends and well-wishers. Unfortunately, the information rarely covers decorating the nursery. People struggle to come up with fresh decorating ideas. Here are some simple decorating ideas that will get you started and make decorating the nursery easier.

Minimize the decoration.
As tempting as it might seem to run out and buy everything in sight to decorate the nursery, it's important to remember to not overly clutter the baby's room. Keep furniture and toys to a minimum, especially for a newborn. An ideal nursery would be fully furnished with a cot, changing table, storage shelves or wardrobe and may be a rocking chair. Remember to decorate the rooms with the minimum you need because once your baby is older, he or she will be crawling, not walking. Keep the floor space open and safe for your baby. This will improve both the aesthetics (decoration) and the liveability of the nursery. When decorating, pick a theme for the nursery to make your nursery unique and appealing to all ages. Ensure all your decoration has a central theme, having panda bear wallpaper (black and white) with a yellow cot and red rug isn’t appealing. Choose a decorating theme and perhaps add an image-based theme, like horses, seascapes and cartoon characters. Keep the décor themes light and breezy, as this will be stimulating for the baby and should still look relatively nice to adults. Always pick your cot first and decorate around the cot. Remember, the cot is going to be the focal point of the nursery. All your décor needs to flow around it naturally.

Carpet or wood?
Wood floors are lovely and always enhance the decoration. However, your baby will prefer carpeting as part of the decoration. Not only will it be more comfortable for him or her in terms of crawling, but it's also an added safety feature. If your baby falls in the nursery, carpeting will help to pad their fall and save then from potential injury. Carpet is also quieter and warmer, which you will certainly appreciate more on cold winters night at 3am.

Boy, girl or neutral Decoration?

If you are not aware of your baby's gender. You can either decorate the nursery with neutral colours such as yellow, green, off-whites which whilst being neutral can still be stimulating for your baby. Decorate your nursery with neutral colours and then use accessories, such as curtains, rugs and furniture to add colour and enhance the decoration. The advantage of neutral decoration is that you can easily change the look for the room, without re-decorating.If you do want a gender themed nursery, you can always wait and decorate the nursery after the baby is born. Which ever way you choose to decorate, ensure that all paints and any other decoration you use is safe and suitable for a baby’s nursery. Decorating a nursery. Baby’s room decoration.
